Could my feeding behaviour be a response to my child as well as an influence on them?

This article examines whether feeding practices and a child’s eating behaviours predict changes in each other. The family decision is how caregivers can preserve an active role for the child within developmentally suitable feeding routines.

Who was studied?

Fourteen longitudinal studies in a systematic review of parental feeding and child eating behaviours.

Age / stage: Childhood

Read with three questions

  1. What does the article establish about whether feeding practices and a child’s eating behaviours predict changes in each other?
  2. Which differences among studies complicate interpretation of the combined estimate?
  3. How closely does the population described here match the family or setting you have in mind? The population to compare is fourteen longitudinal studies in a systematic review of parental feeding and child eating behaviours.

Keep the limits in view

Pooled estimates inherit differences and possible biases in the original studies. The combined sample size does not remove confounding in observational data.
