What could help a school activity lead to a genuine conversation at home?

A classroom component and a family evening were designed to encourage conversations at home about alcohol. The exploratory evaluation gives attention to reaching parents.

Who was studied?

Primary-school children and families in the Kids, Adults Together prevention program.

Age / stage: Ages nine to eleven

Read with three questions

  1. Who attended the family evening, and who might the program have missed?
  2. Which outcomes address feasibility and which would need a larger comparative trial?
  3. How does the study distinguish one family member’s report from a shared account?

Keep the limits in view

Preliminary work is informative about acceptability and delivery. Small or selected samples and limited follow-up restrict conclusions about effectiveness for other families.
