Are the workplace and childcare center making compatible plans with the parent?

Examines tensions between work, milk provision and childcare routines, showing why a parent, employer and care provider need compatible expectations.

Study context

50 working mothers using US childcare centers and 22 early-childhood educators.

Age / stage: Mothers of infants in center-based care.

Read with three questions

  1. How did mothers’ expectations compare with educators’ constraints?
  2. Which feeding rules, training and time pressures limited support?
  3. Where did parents request individualized practices and what tensions followed?

Keep the limits in view

One-time self-selected interviews cannot estimate prevalence or show that a proposed coordination policy changes breastfeeding outcomes; center regulations and resources vary.
