Editorial reading guide · Collaboration

Are we ready to support a parent in practice, or only in principle?

Assesses readiness to support breastfeeding across employers and community actors, distinguishing enthusiasm from resources and knowledge to act.

Study context

17 purposively selected parents, community representatives, health professionals and tea-plantation managers in Kericho County, Kenya.

Age / stage: Working mothers and infants; adult community stakeholders.

Read with three questions

  1. Which readiness dimensions scored highest and lowest?
  2. How did leadership compare with resource availability and knowledge of efforts?
  3. What would need evaluation beyond a readiness score before claiming improved family outcomes?

Keep the limits in view

A small purposive stakeholder sample at one tea estate cannot represent Kenya or prove intervention effectiveness; readiness ratings are not breastfeeding or employment outcomes.
