Can learning a nonpunitive approach change how capable a parent feels?
The study examines whether learning firm, nonpunitive responses is accompanied by greater parental confidence. It is evidence about parent self-efficacy, not proof of improved child health.
Who was studied?
Seventy mothers with low parenting self-efficacy from one kindergarten in China
Age / stage: Young children attending kindergarten
Read with three questions
- Who was eligible and how were groups formed?
- What did the parenting self-efficacy scale actually assess?
- Which claims about children’s diet or long-term wellbeing were not directly tested?
Keep the limits in view
The study was small, from a single kindergarten and focused on maternal self-report. Reported random selection/group division is not sufficient detail to assume robust allocation concealment; child lifestyle benefits were not established.
