Public project summary

Pulsars have been at the center of astronomical research since their discovery in 1967. This project examines the correlation between the rate at which a pulsar loses rotational energy and the non-thermal radiation and bulk kinetic energy of expansion of its supernova remnant. It has been shown, using the Crab pulsar-nebula system, that the rate of decrease of energy has a strong correlation to the energy in the surrounding nebula. This study will analyze the applicability of this relationship to other pulsar-nebula systems.
